A hydrogen bromide gas detector is useful only when its inlet is where HBr might reach the air you need to monitor. A gas cabinet connection, a worker changing a cylinder and a transfer hose are different jobs. Decide which point needs a continuous warning, which person needs a carried instrument and whether a remote probe must sample a fitting before comparing detector housings.
Specify HBr gas in workplace air, the proposed inlet location and whether monitoring must continue between visits. Name the substance before naming the detector

If more than one substance is involved, give each its own measurement requirement rather than ordering an unspecified “acid gas” instrument. Start with the work point, not the industry name
Mark the suspected release point, normal operator position, airflow direction and access route on a drawing. The ILO/WHO chemical safety card for HBr says the gas is heavier than air and readily dissolves in water. Those properties matter, but neither gives a universal mounting height. Cabinet extraction, open doors, equipment obstructions and a warm release can all change where a sample travels. A detector installed at the easiest wiring point may watch the wrong air.
Gas cabinet or manifold
Identify the cylinder connection, regulator and cabinet exhaust path separately. If a point must remain under watch while the cabinet is closed and no worker is present, a fixed detector may have a defined job. Ask where the alarm appears outside the cabinet and what happens when the detector or its communications fail. A display visible only after opening the door is not the same warning route.
Cylinder changeout
The worker may move from storage to the cabinet, connect the cylinder and then check the valve. A personal instrument follows that movement; a fixed point stays with the cabinet. If a fitting should be checked before close approach, consider a compatible pumped probe whose inlet can reach that fitting. None of these duties is covered merely by calling a device “portable.”
Aqueous acid transfer
A hose coupling or receiving vessel can be a repeat-use location, but the measurement question is not settled by the presence of hydrobromic acid. Confirm whether the expected airborne material includes HBr gas, droplets, или оба. A fixed unit can remain active at a chosen location between operator visits. Its value depends on that chosen inlet and on what the alarm does after a reading or fault occurs. Specify power, receiving device, notification point and service access. If one manifold has several connections, a single detector beside the door is not automatically coverage for each connection.
A wearable diffusion unit measures air that reaches its own inlet. It can follow a person through changeout or inspection, but it stops watching the cabinet once that person leaves. Check wearing position, battery duty and whether the intended HBr sensor is fitted to the actual supplied instrument. A conventional O2/LEL/CO/H2S four-gas set does not include HBr.
A pumped device moves the sampling inlet to a defined point away from the instrument body. It is useful when the question is “what is present at this valve?” rather than “what is present around my belt?” The probe, line, filter and pump become part of the measurement system. A fixed and a carried detector may both be appropriate at the same installation because their assigned locations are different.
The tube can change the answer
With pumped HBr sampling, note where the gas enters the probe, the tubing material and length, joints, фильтр, moisture exposure, flow indication and time allowed before reading the display. An older experimental study of hydrogen-halide sampling lines found substantial differences in HBr reaching the analyzer through different tube materials under its test conditions. Two delays need separating. The sensor has its own response under stated test conditions. A remote sample must first travel from the probe tip through the line, and some of it may be lost or delayed along the way. A faster sensor does not erase transport time or interaction with a wet or unsuitable line. Ask the supplier for the allowed accessories and demonstrate response using the exact probe, tube and filter that will be delivered.

What to put in the HBr purchase specification
Ask for the exact HBr measurement arrangement, not only a model name. Check the delivered system at its actual inlet
At commissioning, compare the fitted gas channel and range with the order. Record the fixed inlet or portable wearing position, and photograph the probe route if one is used. Check that the inlet is accessible for inspection. Exercise the local warning and any remote signal at the place where it must be received. A fault indication should reach that destination as well, not remain hidden at the detector.
For a pump arrangement, test flow and response with the supplied tube, probe and filter assembled. Changing any of those parts later can change the sample path even if the detector body is unchanged. Keep the documentation for the exact HBr configuration with the unit; another gas option in the same product family may need different test equipment or a different procedure.
Give the supplier a point and a task
“HBr gas at the cylinder-cabinet connection, watched between operator visits, with a separate check during cylinder changeout” is a useful starting request. Add the drawing, desired measurement range, sampling route, alarm recipient and service conditions. The quotation can then be checked against a real monitoring job instead of a generic model name.
